The Godfrey Hirst Story
Godfrey Hirst New Zealand Limited, the operating parent company of the Godfrey Hirst Group, established its carpet manufacturing business in Auckland in 1986. Initially, the Company focused on producing cost effective products and targeted growth in volume.
This strategy proved effective, with the Company growing steadily, particularly from 1991 onwards. By 1994, the Company had sufficient critical mass to warrant purchasing its own spinning facility. In September 1994, Canterbury Spinners Limited was established to purchase the yarn spinning plant operated by Thomas Carr (UK) Limited in Bromley, Christchurch.
During the next 13 years Godfrey Hirst continued to work hard to increase its market presence and reputation in the New Zealand carpet market. Then in December 2007, it acquired the assets of Feltex New Zealand Limited out of receivership. As a result of the acquisition, and subsequent restructuring, the Group has now grown to over 650 employees, producing yarn from three modern woollen yarn spinning plants and a state of the art tufting facility in Auckland.
Godfrey Hirst now has the capacity to produce over 2.5 million broadloom meters of woollen and synthetic carpet annually, selling under its two main brands in New Zealand - Feltex and Godfrey Hirst. In addition, finished carpet is imported from Godfrey Hirst Australia which supplements our range of New Zealand made carpets.
Godfrey Hirst is now the leading supplier of carpet to the New Zealand market, due to a commitment to providing the highest quality carpet at the most competitive price, supported by a commitment to exemplary customer service.
